Welcome to the E.G.G.S. Hike, a tribute to a true trailblazer, Emma "Grandma" Gatewood, and a celebration of her remarkable achievements in the world of long-distance hiking. Organized by the Little Cities of the Forest Chapter of the Buckeye Trail Association in collaboration with several esteemed partners, this event is an opportunity to challenge your hiking prowess and pay homage to an iconic figure in the outdoor community.
The E.G.G.S. Hike: Embrace the Challenge
The E.G.G.S. Hike offers participants the chance to follow in Grandma Gatewood's footsteps and test their hiking mettle with a series of challenging trails. There are five distinctive hiking challenges, each presenting a unique test of endurance and determination:
20 Miles: A day and night hike, to be completed within 12 hours.
40 Miles: A challenging day and night hike, to be completed within 24 hours.
60 Miles: A demanding hike, to be completed within 36 hours.
80 Miles: The ultimate test of endurance, to be conquered within 48 hours.
These trails wind through the breathtaking landscapes of Burr Oak State Park and the Wildcat Hollow Backpack Trail, offering hikers a diverse range of terrain and natural beauty to explore.
