Description: The Buckeye Trail Association's Little Cities of the Forest Chapter is proud to host the 16th Annual E.G.G.S. Hike + Campout at Burr Oak State Park. This event is held in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the North Country Trail Association, American Discovery Trail Society and Wayne National Forest. The event honors a founding member of the BTA and the first female to solo thru-hike the Appalachian Trail, Emma “Grandma” Gatewood, an Ohio native and long time advocate of ultra-light backpacking. She was also the first woman to thru hike the Appalachian Trail two times.
Hike Challenges:There are 3 hiking challenges consisting of 20 (day and night), 40, and 80 miles that need to be completed in 12, 24, and 48 hours respectively
Dates: Thursday, June 19 at 3:00pm to Sunday, June 22 at 12:00pm
REGISTRATION: Register here - Each EGGS Hiker, or Supporter just camping, must complete a separate individual registration form, using a unique email address.
- EGGS Hike registration ends at midnight June 1, 2025.
- Registration limit is 100 total EGGS Hikers.
- The EGGS Hike + Campout is pre-registration only, there are no walk-in registrations.
Location: Burr Oak State Park near Glouster, OH
Camping: This event is held at the Scout Group Camping Area of Burr Oak State Park near Dock #3. There is an open field for tent and RV/camper setup (no electric/hook-up), non flush toilets, and drinking water. Camping is free for all registered EGGS Hikers.
Alternate Lodging: Burr Oak Lodge and Cabins, and Burr Oak Getaways are BTA and EGGS Hike Supporters, check out the EGGS Hike Facebook event at http://facebook.com/eggshike for updates, details, and possible BTA Member discounts for lodging during the event.
Cost: $65 for current Buckeye Trail members, $75 for non-BTA members. Non-BTA members will have a chance to become a member at a discounted rate when registering. Cost includes event shirt, camping for all 3 nights, and chuckwagon meals.
Supporters pay $30 for camping
Meals: Chuckwagon — Breakfast will be provided on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Cook out style dinner Friday night. Italian style dinner will be provided on Saturday. All meals are at designated times, are first come first served, and free to all paying participants. Meals are buffet style. As always, donations are appreciated and welcomed.
