Are you interested in learning how the BTA lays out new stretches of trail? Have you ever wondered what is like to work deep in the backcountry? Well, then, join the Appalachian Foothills Chapter as we layout and flag a new route through one of Ohio's forgotten wonders in a remote corner of the Shawnee State Forest Wilderness Area. This is the first part of an extensive re-route that will bring many miles of off-road hiking to the BT.
We will be setting out from Buckhorn Ridge Trailhead on Friday and setting up a primitive base camp on the Cabbage Patch Trail from which to work Saturday and Sunday. ALL WILDERNESS AREA REGULATIONS WILL APPLY. This includes the following:
Fires are prohibited except in portable stoves
Cutting of trees is prohibited
Leave No Trace camping practices must be exercised
NOTICE: This will be a true backcountry working environment. Cell reception will be very limited, and we will be working over an hour from definitive medical care. Additionally, there is no potable water on site, and access to filterable water from Vastine Run will be limited. We will be bringing all the supplies we need for the weekend with us.
