Lake Plains Chapter
The Lake Plains Chapter is located along the Pemberville, Norwalk, and Medina sections of the Buckeye Trail and includes the Trail Town of Wakeman. The Chapter area includes Ashland, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Erie, Hancock, Huron, Lorain, Lucas, Medina, Ottawa, Richfield, Sandusky, Seneca, Summit, Wood, and Wyandot counties.
Featuring relatively flat terrain, the Lake Plains region is ideal for easy strolls and those looking to take in the scenery of the Midwest. The trail passes through a variety of countryside including farm, field and forest. The Buckeye Trail joins the North Coast Inland Trail (NCIT) between Elmore (Pemberville Section) to Wakeman (Norwalk Section) and all walkers, runners, bicyclers, in-line skaters and cross-country skiers are welcome on this section of multipurpose trail. Historical sites of interest in this section include the towering 273’ double-arch Chapin Bridge, built-in 1872, which spans the Vermillion River, as well as the Kirby House and the picturesque Kirby Mill and dam, which are on the National Register of Historic Landmarks, located within the Richfield Heritage Preserve.
